CF Superheroes Calendar and 2015

Posted by Lorraine Barnes on December 16, 2014 at 7:00 PM

Underway with selling the CF Superheroes Calendar after a delay of nearly 2 weeks for delivery which mean't I am running out of time to maximise sales and was not able to get any publicity sorted for Press Releases via the CF Trust.  Must get act together sooner in 2015!  It was a last minute decision on my part to do one anyway so will do my best this year with the 1000 Calendars I have to sell - I would imagine the majority will end up being used to raise awareness for Cystic Fibrosis and to drum up support for future fundraisers.  The Sponsor, Hills Prospect Ltd, also have 1000 Calendars which will be distributed with drinks deliveries to pubs throughout London which will help raise awareness.

My aim was to try and raise between £5000 - £6000 from sales of the Calendar towards my target of £50,000 but am not sure that will be possible.   However, people are busy with Christmas at the moment and some are busy gathering in orders, so anything is possible.  I'm not the most patient person in the world .... I want everything "yesterday"!

Plans are progressing for a few Challenges for me in 2015 and I've already registered to do Wing Walking in Essex possibly in either May/June next year.  Daniel also wants to do the Wing Walking, but it depends on whether I can raise the Sponsorship for us both - I like to encourage him to do anything he wants to do while he can do it - Cystic Fibrosis is so unpredictable and complex that we have no idea what the future holds for him, or for his brother.

I am planning on writiing or Tweeting 50 "Celeb's" to try and get SIGNED items to Auction on ebay at some point next year - once I get the 50 items, no matter how long it takes me to get them, I'll get the Auction underway.

I have another Facebook Auction planned, after the success of the 50 Auctions on Facebook which raised over £550 towards my target.  The next Auction will include Unwanted Xmas presents/sales items - we all get a little "something" we don't know what to do with and I hate to say it, but every year I get Thorntons chocolates from my mother in law or Ferrero Roche and I don't like either - they will be in my Auction!

I have just booked a date today for "Team 50" Tandem Skydive Challenge which will be held on 27th June 2015 at Langar Airfield in Nottingham - just need to drum up 49 brave people to join me!  Early days - again, people are planning Christmas - I'll wait until New Years Eve to mention it again when everyone has had a tipple or two and are planning their New Year's Challenges!

I am planning on doing a Zipwire in Snowdonia with Daniel next year, but have to fit then in with his University holidays - could be Easter time for that one.

I have days when I doubt whether I can actually meet the £50,000 Target - I am, after all, only one person, but I hope to encourage as many people involved in our lives as possible as a family to help me one way or another - so beware!!  Family, friends, CF parents, neighbours, local town, my sons Secondary School, my boys CF Teams .... I have a certain friend I'd LOVE to do a Challenge with, but he's escaped to LA out of my reach - we all have dreams we can't reach!

January, fundraising wise, will be on a Low Key for me due to both boys having 2 weeks of IV antibiotics which will overlap and then Joe is having a Gastrostomy on 14th January - I'll be doing things in the background - planning!

When I feel myself slipping and doubting myself, I'll take a look at the pictures of my sons and remind myself .... I want to do this for them - I want them to have a secure future .... I want them to see 50 years old and way beyond.

Cystic Fibrosis Superheroes Calendar 2015

Posted by Lorraine Barnes on November 6, 2014 at 8:20 AM

Lack of updates this past couple of weeks courtesy of Cystic Fibrosis sticking it's ugly nose in - youngest son was admitted to Hospital mid-way through a routine 3 monthly course of IV antibiotics as his chest was very cackly and lung function had dropped to 72% from an average of 86 - 89% in a few months.  He also had an NG Tube inserted to tube feed him overnight for 6 days to try and get some weight on him as he hasn't gained any weight since May 2013 - this did not work as it put him off eating normally due to the pain in his nose/throat, so he ended up loosing more weight!  He is to be re-admitted in January 2015 to have a Gastrostomy for long term weight gain support.

Trying to do a Calendar on a limited time scale is proving challenging, but possible!!  As part of my desire to raise £50,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust between now and my 50th Birthday in 19 months I have to do a few BIG fundraisers in order to achieve that target and I know from past experience that the Calendar's created by me do well and raise a good few thousand pounds, which will go a long way towards me achieving my goal.  So the 2015 Cystic Fibrosis Superheroes Calendar is GO GO GO!!

I currently have 76 pictures, the majority of which are babies and children who have Cystic Fibrosis, and these have now been sent to the Designer/Printer to get underway with producing the Calendar.  Pleased to say that my good friend Nick Callaghan from Hills Prospect Ltd in London will be Sponsoring the Calendar again so that 100% of the proceeds can be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

The Calendars created by me since 2006 - 7 in total, 8 with this new one, have raised nearly £40,000 in total - always a well received and well supported fundraiser - ideal Christmas presents - ideal for raising awareness of the dreadful genetic condition which is Cystic Fibrosis - and it also shows impressionable young children that they are not alone - there are other children out there like them who do daily treatments, take daily medications, have intrusive procedures like bronchoscopys, endoscopys, Portacath insertion, Gastrostomys, IV antibiotics every 3 months and so on.

I have called on the support once more of another good friend, Mike, who has Cystic Fibrosis and was 60 years old last month - a good age for a person with CF, who designed my very first Calendar and always updated my Order Form, Compliment Slips and Poster.  Once the final cover image has been approved by me I'll get the poster added to my website for people to download and display in CF Units.  When I have a Calendar to weigh I'll get P & P details added to the Order Form which can be downloaded via this website.

A limited amount of Calendars will also be listed on ebay for those people I can't reach affected by Cystic Fibrosis through Twitter and Facebook links.

I hope this Calendar will be well supported and target to raise = £5000 - £6000 ..... WATCH THIS SPACE FOR MORE INFORMATION!!

The Challenge is on ...

My 50th Birthday is fast approaching and as I don't particularly want to "celebrate" it, I thought I'd try and do SOMETHING which would make a difference - something I can look back on and remember forever.  I thought I'd give it a go to TRY and do 50 Fundraisers for the Cystic Fibrosis before my birthday - I've got 19 months!!  It IS possible to squeeze that many in - they don't ALL have to be BIG - I'm starting off small for the moment as there is not much time left in this year - I'll spread the Fundraisers out next year depending on time/my boy's health/where and when each Challenge will take place.  I also aim to TRY and raise £50,000 before the end of my 50th Birthday which will take place at Belton Woods in Grantham ... my 50th Birthday Charity Ball in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

At the moment I have Halloween Goodie Bags for sale at my local Hairdressers and am selling them to friends and have them listed on ebay.  Each bag costs £2 and 100% of those sold will be added to my Justgiving Page.

I am currently putting together a disc to send to Designer/Printer to get a Cystic Fibrosis Superhero's 2015 Calendar done - the Calendar features mostly children who have Cystic Fibrosis.  This Calendar will be sponsored by Hills Prospect in London so that 100% will be donated to the CF Trust via my Justgiving Page.

Myself, my husband and youngest son have signed up to do the Santa Fun Run in aid of the CF Trust on 30th November 2014 at Rushcliffe Park, Nottingham - any Sponsorship will be added to my Justgiving Page.

I aim to start a small Facebook Auction of 50 items within the next 2 - 3 weeks featuring various Christmas items, jewellery, gifts etc.

For now ....... that's enough, but I do have other Fundraisers in the "pipeline" - I'm not Superwoman - I can only do so much - but I'll do all I can to achieve my target .... with the help of my family and friends.  All support, encouragement and help most welcome!!  :)
